Triceratops horridus Marsh 1899.

Tooth from the dental battery of a Ceratopsian or 'Horned' Dinosaur. The jaws had rows of teeth used to bite / chew tough vegetation. The high silica content in these plants would have worn down the teeth which would need constant replacement. This tooth shows signs of extreme wear.

Late Cretaceous, Maastrichtian, Lance Creek Formation.
Niobrara County, Eastern Wyoming.

Tooth : 1.2 cm. wide.
