WEIRD ARTHROPOD - CYCLUS RADIALIS - CARBONIFEROUS, DERBYSHIRE.

Cyclus radialis de Konick 1841.

Cyclus are small rounded Arthropods somewhat resembling tiny turtles. They evolved in the Carboniferous and became extinct at the end of the Triassic. They have no known living or extinct relatives and their exact systematic position is uncertain. They occur in both marine and brackish water sediments.

Single perfect complete specimen. Nice detail under magnification. Almost never seen offered for sale, certainly not from the British Isles. Rare collector's item. Weird and wonderful.

Lower Carboniferous, Viséan, Reef limestone
Castleton, Derbyshire

Specimen : 0.4cm. diam.
