Phareodus encaustus (Cope 1871).

An extremely young juvenile fish on cream siltstone. Phareodus was a ferocious predator. Even on such a young specimen the very large eye and strong jaw are evident. These tiny Phareodus rarely come up for sale.

Eocene, Green River Formation. Fossil Butte member. Split fish layer.
