UNUSUAL MICRODEROCERAS - JURASSIC, DORSET.
Microderoceras sp. aff. birchi (J. Sowerby).
An unusual form of Microderoceras found in the River Char behind Charmouth. The inner row of tubercles are very reduced so that they form elongated nodose ribs. This type of Microderoceras was referred to Microderoceras inexpectans Spath. The inner whorls are 3D calcitic and perfect. A rarely offered species from Dorset.
Jurassic, Lower Sinemurian, Turneri Zone.
River Char, Charmouth, Dorset.
Ammonite : 11.5 cm. diam.
