TRILOBITE FEEDING TRAIL - ORDOVICIAN, MOROCCO.

TRILOBITE FEEDING TRAIL - ORDOVICIAN, MOROCCO.

Trilobite resting walking and feeding trail.

Hand sized piece of brown sandstone. Running the length of the matrix on one surface is a 2.6 cm wide trace fossil. At one end is a depression where the Trilobite would have been at rest. This is followed by forward movement with repeated stops where the front edge of the glabella has left a trace. All along the right hand side there are faint 'scrape' marks made by the appendages when walking. These are not seen on the right hand side suggesting the Trilobite was banking at an angle whilst moving. Overall the suggestion is that the animal was making repeated forward movements probably whilst looking for food on the sea bed. Really superb example with lots going on.

Ordovician. Caradocian, Fezouata Formation.
Draa valley, Morocco.

trace fossil : 14.5 cm. long.
