This is button shaped tooth from a Pycnodontid fish. These teeth formed a crushing pavement for feeding on molluscs and coral. In folklore they were known as 'Toadstones'. They were thought to have magical medicinal properties and were highly sought after.

Cretaceous, Aptian, Potton Sands.
Potton, Sandy, Bedfordshire.

Tooth : 1.5 cm diam.
