Strepsodus sauroides Binney 1841.

Strepsodus (formerly Holoptychius) was a medium to large predatory fish. Complete matrix free vertebra. From an old Victorian collection. The old Colliery at Newsham, Blythe, produced a wealth of well-preserved fish and amphibian remains whilst it was working. Nice' old time' piece.

Upper Carboniferous, Westphalian B, Low Main Coal Shale.
Newsham Colliery, Blythe, Northumberland.

Vertebra :  2.9 x 2.6 x 1.5 cm.
