STRANGE 'COLLAPSED' BIVALVE - JURASSIC, GLOUCESTERSHIRE.

Pholadomya ambigua (J. Sowerby)

well preserved complete matrix free Bivalve. Both valves in closed articulated position. At one end of the specimen both valves have been crushed totally flat. This can only have been caused by immense pressure of some kind. I cannot explain this other than the bivalve ending up being buried with the crushed end flat against a very hard substrate ! Weird.

Jurassic, Lower Pliensbachian, Ibex Zone.
Blockley Brickworks, Gloucestershire.

Bivalve : 6.5 cm, long.
