SPINOSAUR VERTEBRA - CRETACEOUS, MOROCCO.

Suchiomimus tenerensis.

The cenrum or lower half of a vertebra from the flesh eating dinosaur Spinosaurus. There are several notable features on this specimen. On either side are enourmous holes for huge blood vessels. The flattened upper part of the vertebra shows the huge attachment area for the neural arch. The size of this attachment area is because Spinosaurus had exceptionally long neural spines on the vertebrae of the neck and body.  An impressive piece.

Cretaceous, Albian / Cenomanian, Tegana Formation.
Hamada gu Guir, Kem Kem Basin, south of Taouz, Morocco.

vertebra : 13 x 12 x 11,5 cm.
