Salterolithus caractaci (Murchison 1839).
Beautiful example of this difficult to obtain Trilobite. Complete specimen with both long trailing genal spines preserved. Some damage to the glabella which would have stayed in the negative when the rock split. This Trilobite is known from only 2 localities. The type locality 'Trilobite Dingle' in the middle of the town of Welshpool has long been an SSI with protected status and no collecting. Luckily it also occurs in another stream a few miles away. Virtually impossible to get hold of this species nowadays.
Ordovician, Caradocian, Harnagian Stage, MIddleton Mudstone Formation.
Braggington Dingle near Welshpool, Powys, Wales.
