Measacanthus cf. mitchelli Egerton.
The body of a small Acanthodian missing both the head and the tail. Shows the 'shagreen' of tiny scales so characteristic of these fishes. Little evidence of the body fin supports. This in all probability is a regurgitation from a predator. In this instance that would be the much bigger Acanthodian, Parexus.
Lower Devonian, Lockovian, Arbuthnott Group.
Tillywhanland Quarry, Turin Hill, near Forfar, Scotland.
Fish : 1.7 cm long
