Pictonia bayleyi Salfield.
Part of the outer whorl of a zonal index Ammonite. The original iridescent shell still preserved. At the mid point along one edge there is a 0.8 cm long by 0.4 cm wide distinct indentation in the shell. This is as a result of a bite from a predator attack. Most likely a marine reptile (Ichthyosaur or Plesiosaur) rather than a shark ,Crocodile or fish. The Ammonite survived the attack and continued to grow. Cast iron predation evidence.
