MYSTERY ECHINODERM - CRETACEOUS, KENT.

sections of Echinoderm plates with groove - almost certainly from a Starfish.

Two small flint replaced fossils. They both look for all the world like miniature Echinoids with a well defined groove at one end. They are not, however Echinoids, nor are they Crinoids. The only thing I can think of is that they are part of a Cretaceous Starfish / Brittlestar. This might explain the grooves as they could be where the arms are attached which did not preserve. As both found together, they are almost certainly off the same animal. Never seen anything quite like this before ! Weird and wonderful
