Pagiophyllum sp.
Huge slab of 'woodstone'. Easily the largest and finest example I have seen in years. Collected decades ago. One entire surface of the huge slab is covered in well preserved plant tissue. One section is slightly carbonised. These pieces of conifer would have drifted out from the nearby landmass and eventually would have become waterlogged and sank to the sea bed. N.B WEIGHS ALMOST 2 KILOS.
Jurassic, Upper Sinemurian, Obtusum Zone.
Black Ven, Charmouth / Lyme Regis, Dorset.
Specimen : 29 x 18 x 2.5 cm.
