Osteolepis panderi Pander 1861.

Triangular piece of grey flagstone. On one surface are two complete fish and the remains of 2 others. Some nice detail under magnification. These fish were Crossopterygians ( lobe -finned fish ) which were the direct ancestors of the Amphibians. From a temporary exposure.

Devonian, Eifelian, Upper Caithness Flagstone Group, Hams-Skarfskerry Subgroup.
Skinnet, Hill of Forrs, south of Thurso, Caithness, Scotland.

Matrix : 17 x 10.3 cm.
