Otodus (Megaselachus) megalodon Agassiz, 1843.

Complete beautifully preserved tooth from an extinct giant shark. The triangular blade shows serrations Towards the tip on one edge there is a distinct ragged 'notch'. This has been the result of the shark biting its own teeth during a 'feeding frenzy'. There is a smaller injury of the same type further down the blade.

Miocene, Helvetian.
Cooper River, South Carolina, USA.
