Mariopteris muricata (Brongniart) Zieller 1879.
Palm sized slab of brick coloured shale. One surface shows several well preserved fronds of a seed fern. From the famous old locality of Crock hay opencast near Wigan Now sadly grassed over and filled in.
Carboniferous, Westphalian, Duckmantian. Shales above the Wigan 9 foot coal.
