LUNG FISH TOOTH WITH SHARK SPINE - RHAETIC BONE BED, AUST CLIFF.

Ceratodus latissimus Agassiz 1839 & Nemacanthus monilifer Agassiz 1837.

Base cut slab of the famous Rhaetic Bone Bed at Aust Cliff on the river Severn. On the top surface is a well preserved 3D tooth from a lung fish. Two of the three cusps are present but the third has broken off where the block ends. Lying next to the tooth is part of the breakwater fin spine of a Hybodontid shark with its characteristic triangular shape in cross section. Ceratodus teeth from Aust are rare. If it was perfect it would command a much higher price.
