Sardinella sardinites  (Heckel 1850)

Square slab of matrix, one surface showing a complete fish with an extraordinarily large eye. Lovely detail of skull, vertebrae, ribs and tail. There are also plant remains and coprolites in association. Sweet little fossil. 

Late Miocene, Middle Samantian
Karaganski Hor, Tsureevskaya, Pshekka River, Apsheron District, Krasnodar, Russia

Matrix: 8 x 8 x 1.1 cm
