Otodus (Megaselachus) megalodon

Big, impressive tooth of a giant extinct shark. Commonly referred to as 'Meg' teeth. These sharks grew to enormous lengths and were the apex predator feeding on whales, dolphins, manatees etc. This tooth has been washed around somewhat so that the serrations on the blade have been lost and the enamel is gone from the center of the blade on one side. Even so it is a 4 inch long 'Meg' tooth.

Miocene, Pungo River Marl Formation
Aurora, Beaufort County, North Carolina, USA.

Tooth : 10 cm. long.
