Brachypterygius extremus Boulenger

Matrix free Ichthyosaur vertebra. Along the bottom edge on one surface are four identical parallel grooves made by a predator. The shape and size of the grooves and the fact that they are only on one surface would suggest a Crocodile scavenging on a carcase rather than an attack. Beautiful example.

Jurassic, Kimmeridge Clay.
Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

Vertebra :  11 x 11.5 x 3 cm.
