Stenopterygius sp.

Split nodule containing a complete 3D Ichthyosaur vertebra. The lid of the nodule shows the negative of one end of the vertebra. Stenopterygius is probably the commonest medium sized Ichthyosaur found on the Yorkshire coast. Lovey example.

Jurassic, Upper Toarcian, Whitby Mudstone Formation.Grey Shales.
Rosedale Wyke, Port Mulgrave, Yorkshire.
