ICHTHYOSAUR FEMUR SHOWING CHEW MARKS - JURASSIC, DORSET.


Brachypterygius extremus Boulenger.

Complete femur from the rear paddle of an Ichthyosaur. One surface shows a series of 3 teeth / chew marks. These are most probably from a Crocodile scavenging on a carcase of it could be an attack from another Ichthyosaur or a Pliosaur. Superb example of predation.

Jurassic, Kimmeridge Clay.
Smallmouth Sands off Weymouth Harbour, Dorset.

Bone : 13 cm. long.
