HUGE ANTLER FROM A GIANT IRISH ELK - PLEISTOCENE, UKRAINE.

Megaloceras giganteus Blumenbach.

The iconic Giant Irish Elk had amongst the largest antlers of any known deer. This is the lower part of the antler. It shows the rounded attachment point to the skull as well as the base of the brow tine. The antler itself is some 51 cm long. At around 22 cm. the first tine can be seen branching off and widening out. Where this time meets the main beam of the antler there are numerous parallel scratch marks. These are predation marks from a wolf or big cat.  A really impressive display item and from a very unusual rarely offered locality. Collector's item.

Pleistocene, Devensian.
River Dneister, Ivano - Frankivst, western Ukraine.

Antler :  51 cm. long.
