HORSE BONE SHOWING CARNIVORE PREDATION - PLEISTOCENE, NORTH SEA

Equus cf. caballus

Complete pristine lower leg bone (the 'cannnon' bone or metacarpal) from an Ice Age Horse. In beautiful condition. Towards the distal end on one surface are two grooves lying next to each other. These are the gnaw marks from a predator. The size and width of the grooves would suggest Wolf. Nice example.

Pleistocene, Devensian
Dredged from the Brown Bank, North Sea off Lowestoft.

Bone : 23.5 cm. long.
