Hildoceras bifrons (Bruguiere)
Fine well preserved complete matrix free specimen. To centre both sides. Shows lovely sutures. Half way around the outer whorl there is an injury to the shell. An irregular patch has been depressed downwards on the keel. his is almost certainly the result of a bite from a predator (fish, shark or reptile). if this was a post mortem 'gas escape 'explosion the shell would be pushed upwards not inwards.
Jurassic, Upper Toarcian, 'Junction Beds'.
Hurcott, Ilminster district, Somerset.
Ammonite : 6.3 cm diam.
