HIEMALORA STELLARIS - AN ENIGMATIC FOSSIL FROM THE CAMBRIAN OF WISCONSIN, USA.

Hiemalora stellaris Fedonkin 1980.

Superb example of this unusual enigmatic fossil. Consists of a central disc and a number of tentacle like structures. Because of this is was at first thought to be some sort of sea anemone. However later research suggests that this may be the holdfast for a much larger organism such as Primocandelabrum.
These organisms are found on what has been interpreted as a fossil strandline. Museum quality specimen.

Lower Upper Cambrian.
Mount Simon Complex, Blackberry Hill Deposit.
Marathon County, Wisconsin, USA.

Matrix : 16 x 12.5 cm.
