GROWTH SERIES OF 5 ICHTHYOSAUR VERTEBRA FROM THE JURASSIC OF OXFORDSHIRE.

Brachypterygius extremus (Boulenger).

Ichthyosaurs were fast swimming marine reptiles with good eyesight. The jaws were almost always armed with numerous sharp pointed teeth. They were active predators and fed on Fish, Belemnites and probably Ammonites. In the Kimmeridgian Seas some of these reptiles grew to 30 feet long. Here we have a growth series of 5 vertebrae from five individuals. All matrix free and in excellent condition. Interesting collection.
