Globidens aegyptiacus Zdansky

The top of the tooth (minus the root) from a mollusc crushing marine reptile. These Mosasaurs opted for a different food source to their meat eating relatives and the teeth were modified to mushroom shaped crushing pedestals. Two species of Globidens are in the literature, G. aegyptiacus and G. phospaticus.

Upper Cretaceous, Maastrichtian.
Ouled Abdoun, Morocco.

Tooth : 2.4cm. diam.
