Megaceras giganteus Blumenbach.

Perfect vertebra from a Giant Irish Elk. The axis is the first vertebra where the skull attaches. Irish Elk had enormous antlers the weight of which had to be supported by muscle attachments to strong robust vertebra. This vertebra is in superb condition with all the faces intact. Lovely display piece.

Pleistocene, Devensian.
dredged from the Brown Bank, North Sea off Lowestoft.
