FLANK OF A LARGE FISH - FURO - JURASSIC, LYME REGIS.

Furo serratus.

Furo was a large predatory fish. Some of the scales on Furo serratus show serrated edges. Large piece of flatstone. On one surface is part of a well preserved fish. One section shows a 23 cm long flank of the trunk or body of the fish. lying at right angles is another 9 cm long part of the body. Most of the skull is missing as is the tail. Essentially a ruptured fish carcass. Probably the result of predation with for some reason the remains of the fish being buried before being scavenged on the sea bed. Large articulated fish remains are rare finds from both Black Ven and Church Cliff Bay in general. Excellent preservation and fine surface detail..
