FISH 'VOMIT' OR STOMACH CONTENT - CARBONIFEROUS, LANCASHIRE.

FISH OR SHARK - vomit or stomach contents.

Split nodule. Both positive and negative parts. On the inside there are the scattered remains of what appears to be parts of a fish. There are several possibilities. it could be from a Xenacanthid shark meal or from a large predatory fish such as Megalichthys or Rhizodus. Looks more like vomit than a coprolite. Best example I have seen from Crock Hay.

Carboniferous, Westphalian, Duckmantian, shales above the Wigan 9 foot coal.
Crock Hay opencast near Wigan, Lancashire.

Nodule : 9 x 7.5 x 3.5 cm.
