Fish scales - most probably attributable to the species, Apsopelis anglicus Dixon

Flank of overlapping fish scales. This is most likely just part of a fish carcase on the sea bed. However it has been shown that  certain arthropods, particularly shrimps will line their burrow walls with fish scales to give them extra strength against possible collapse.  Interesting.

Cretaceous, Albian, Gault Clay.
Copt point, Folkestone, Kent.

Specimen : 4 cm long.
