Paleocoma egertoni Broderip.
The 'classic' Eype Starfish. This is a really interesting specimen showing evidence of disturbance after death. Although all 5 arms are present, all have been broken. The central disc has collapsed. This could be the result of either disturbance by currents after death or other animal activity in and around a dead brittlestar. First time I have seen one showing these features.
Jurassic, Upper Pliensbachian, Margaritatus Zone, top of the Eype Clay, 'Starfish bed'.
Down Cliff, Eype, Dorset.
Brittlestar : 3.5 x 3 cm.
