EXCEPTIONAL DRAGONFLY LARVA - MIOCENE, ITALY.

Libellula doris Heer.

Triangular piece of buff siltstone showing an exceptionally well preserved complete dragonfly larva. Although a relatively common fossil many examples are 'enhanced' a little. This one is 100% natural and shows the head, segmented body and all six legs. There is even some original colour preserved. This is the finest example I have seen of this fossil in 36 years !

Miocene, Tortonian.
Vittoria d'Alba, Cuneo, Italy.

Matrix : 16 x 8.2 x 0.6 cm.
Insect : 1.5 cm. long.
