ENIGMATIC FOSSIL - CARBONIFEROUS, OKLAHOMA
Conostrichus pulcher Branson A biogenic sandstone conical structure of unknown affinity. Variously interpreted as a plant, a sponge, a medusoid, a syphomedusian or the trace fossil (feeding burrow) of an Arenicola-like worm. I favour the latter explanation. Weird and wonderful! Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian, Keystone Sand Creek County, Oklahoma, USA Structure: 41.5 x 41.5 x 4 cm
