ELEPHANT BIRD EGGSHELL - HOLOCENE, MADAGASCAR.
Aepyornis maximus Owen.
The Elephant bird was one of the largest flightless birds ever. It became extinct on Madagascar due to the destructive actions of man. It survived to historical times. Fine well preserved piece of eggshell. The eggs of this giant bird were the size of a rugby ball.
