Echinolampas burdigalensis Agassiz 1840.
Perfect matrix free test. Lovely preservation and excellent surface detail under magnification. Towards the apex of the upper surface there is a 1.5 cm long gouge / groove. This is the result of a bite from either a shark or a large fish having a 'nibble'. Lovely example of evidence of predation.
Upper Eocene, Calcaire marin superior de Blaye.
Carriere de L'octroi, Blaye, Charente Maritime, France.
Echinoid : 5 x 4 cm.
