ECHINOID SHOWING FISH OR REPTILE PREDATION MARKS - CRETACEOUS, KENT.
Micraster coranguinum (Leske).
Fine complete matrix free test. On the surface are 6 separate grooves which can only be explained as teeth marks. On in particular is 2cm long and 0.8 cm wide which is a very good match for an Ichthyosaur tooth. A large fish or a shark are other possibilities. Echinoids are very often preyed on by starfish which is another candidate. Really good example.
Cretaceous, Upper Chalk, Santonian.
Palm Bay, Thanet, Kent.
