Cheirolepis trailli Agassiz 1835.

Complete fish on round slab of grey flagstone. Cheirolepis was a very early Palaeoniscid. It was a predator. This is just a juvenile. Part of a second individual lying below the complete fish. Fish lying belly upwards. Scales, fins and tail all show under magnification. Juveniles are rare. From the collection of the late J. Hearty of Glasgow.

Middle Devonian, Eifelian, Sandwick Fish Bed.
Tronston, Orkney.
