DINOSAUR BONE WITH MASSIVE PUNCTURE WOUND - CRETACEOUS, ISLE OF WIGHT.

Iguanodon sp. indet.

Part of the vertebra from a Dinosaur, almost certainly an Iguanodon. On one surface is 2 x 2 wide puncture wound more than 1 cm. deep. The shape and size of the hole would point to it having been made by the tooth from a large crocodile rather than a theropod Dinosaur. There were a number of big crocodiles around in the Wealden. Probably just savaging activity rather than an actual attack. Lovely example.

Cretaceous, Wealden, Wessex Formation.
Brook Bay, Isle of Wight.

Specimen : 21.5 x 8 x 6 cm.
