Palaeoniscus freiselebenensis Blainville.
Palaeoniscus is the definite fish associated with the Marl Slate. This fish has curled up after death on the seabed so that the skull has come to rest on the body. Both the lower jaws have then detached and drifted off. The jaws show tiny teeth. Some very nice detail under magnification. Interesting specimen. N.B. THIS SPECIMEN WEIGHS 1.2 KILOS.
Upper Permian, Marl Slate.
