CROCODILE VERTEBRA - KIMMERIDGE CLAY, OXFORDSHIRE.

Crocodile gen. et sp. indet.

3D vertebra from a crocodile. Still has a few patches of matrix adhering but essentially matrix free. The vertebra has been laterally compressed so that it appears skewed. The bone itself is in lovely condition with fine surface detail. At least four different types of crocodiles are recorded form the English Kimmeridge Clay including, Dakosaurus, Metriorhynchus, Teleosaurus and Geosaurus. This one is most likely to be from a Teleosaurus but it is not possible to get an accurate determination from just an isolated vertebra

Jurassic, Kimmeridge Clay.
Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

Vertebra.   5.5 x 7 x 4.5 cm.
