CRINOID CALYX ON MATRIX - SILURIAN, SHROPSHIRE
Eucalyptocrinus decorus ( Phillips ).
Palm sized lump of crinoidal limestone. Perched at one end is the basal part of the cup or calyx of a Crinoid. 3D and showing characteristic ' lumpy' basal plates. The rest of the calyx probably destroyed in a storm surge. Unusual to get a crinoid calyx still articulated in amongst so much stem debris.
Silurian, Homerian, Wenlock Limestone. Farley Quarry, Much Wenlock, Shropshire.
Matrix : 13 x 7.5 x 3.5 cm. Calyx : 2.4 cm. diam.
