Mallotus villosus (Muller, 1776)

Modern Capelin live in Arctic waters. Beautifully preserved complete fish in a split nodule. Excellent detail of the skull, vertebrae, ribs, fins etc. under magnification. These beautiful fossil fish are found near Ottowa and also on the east coast of Greenland.

Lower Pleistocene, Leda Clay Formation.
Besserer's Grove, Green Creek near Ottowa, Ontario, Canada.
