COLLECTION OF 6 ICHTHYOSAUR VERTEBRA FROM LYME REGIS.

Ichthyosaurus communis De la Beche & Conybeare.

Ichthyosaurs have a large number of vertebrae. They vary enormously in shape and size along the length of -the skeleton. They have a very characteristic bi-concave  cross=section which makes them easily to recognise. All of these vertebrae were found relatively close together on the foreshore at Church Cliff Bay, although they almost certainly belonged to more than one individual. Lovely little collection.

Jurassic, Lower Sinemurian.
Church Cliff Bay, Lyme Regis, Dorset.

Largest vertebra :  3.4 x 2.9 x 1.2 cm.
