CLYPEUS WITH 'BITE' MARK - JURASSIC, FRANCE.
Clypeus plotti Salter.
Fine matrix free complete test. The upper surface shows an irregular 1.5 cm. long groove. This has to be a tooth mark from a predator. The thinness of the groove would suggest a large fish. Echinoids can be preyed upon by starfish and gastropods but this looks more like a tooth drag mark.
Jurassic, Bajocian. Jaulnay, Lorraine, France.
Echinoid : 8.2 x 8.2 x 2.2 cm.
