CLYPEASTER SHOWING EVIDENCE OF PREDATION - MIOCENE, HUNGARY.

Clypeaster scillae.

Fine well preserved Clypeaster. Along the edge at one end a large chunk of the test has been ripped off. This is direct evidence of predation. The most likely candidate is a starfish. It could be a bite from a fish. At the apex of the test on the upper surface there is another area of damage - this time probably from a Gastropod. Really interesting specimen.

Miocene, Badenian.
Nyirad, Hungary.

Echinoid : 6.8 x 5.6 x 2cm.
