Clavilithes macrospira Cossman
Gerontic (old shell). Must have been lying on the sea bed for some time as marine worms have colonised on the inside of the body chamber. The entire shell is covered in hundred of tiny holes drilled by perhaps a sponge. The larger holes are more likely to be from predatory Gastropods. Really nice example.
Eocene, Bartonian, Barton Beds.
Barton-on-Sea, Hampshire.
Shell : 14.5 cm. long.
