Clavilithes macrospira Cossman 1889.

Fine example of this large attractive Barton Clay Gastropod. The smooth area just at the edge of the aperture is caused by the activity of a hermit crab using the discarded shell.  Really unusual.

Eocene, Bartonian, Bed E, Middle Barton Beds.
Barton-on-Sea, Hampshire.

Gastropod : 13 cm long.
